Sessions @ the Goat Presents: David Lee's Hit Makers & Trailblazers

David Lee's Hitmakers and Trailblazers is a series of songwriter shows at the Screaming Goat Yard Tap in Spring Branch, Texas.  The show replicates a little piece of Nashville by providing an intimate listening room vibe with our local Hitmaker David Lee who invites a Hitmaker Songwriter from Nashville and a well seasoned TrailBlazer who is or has made a name for themselves playing music all over the country.  The writers tell the stories behind the hits they wrote for the recording artist who recorded their song and the Trail Blazer sings the songs he’s written as he weaves in and out of the busy highways of America doing things his/her way.

TrailBlazer: Davin James

Davin’s music is more “black water” than “red dirt”. That’s probably because he grew up watching his father play guitar on lake banks in North Louisiana and South Arkansas. Davin James was born in Jackson Mississippi and grew up in Monroe, Louisiana & Eldorado, Arkansas. In 1978 he moved to Kingwood, Texas. This is where he learned to play the guitar.  Through the 80’s, he played honky-tonks, covering Hank Jr. and Lynyrd Synyrd as well as top 40 country songs. In 1995, Texas music legend, Gary P. Nunn was handed a cassette tape. “That really started my professional musical career”, says Davin. Gary P. recorded four of Davin’s songs; “Guadalupe Days,” “Back In the Swing”, “If You Had A Mind Too”,  “Siesta Sunday” and  “Under My Hat”.  Fifty years and ten records later, you’ll find Davin playing guitar when one of his best friends Larry Joe Taylor,  doing some session work or touring across the country doing festivals.
